Yes, because you will be liable for any damage your car is found to have caused. Contact your broker, who will add a storage rider to your policy. Depending on the insurer, you will receive a credit at the time of storage or when putting your car back on the road.

This has no bearing on the insurance premium. Regardless of whose name appears on the vehicle registration, the coverage and associated premiums are based on the profile of the main driver: your child.

That depends on the answers to the following questions:

  • How old is your child?
  • Do they live with you?
  • Are they a student?
  • How often would they be driving your car?
  • Is your child already the driver/owner of a vehicle?

The reason and period of time that a vehicle is used outside of Québec are factors in the insurer’s decision to maintain or modify your insurance policy.

Contact your insurance broker for more information!

Whether your car is leased or purchased, the first thing you need to know is that you’re required by law to have auto insurance! Your premium will be based on the sum of a set of criteria, such as the make of your vehicle, your driving profile, and your credit rating. The purchase method of your new car will affect your insurance cost, but it will be dependent on all these other factors.

A rider is used to modify your insurance policy. For example, you own a car and you’re the only driver. Occasionally, you would like to lend your car to your children who live with you. In this case, your broker will ask the insurer for a modification (rider) to add them to the policy. Your children’s names will be added to the “driver” section, and you will most likely have to pay an additional amount.

The deductible is the amount that the insured will have to pay in the event of a covered claim.

Let’s assume that the deductible on your auto insurance is $500. You get into an accident and find out the repairs are going to cost $5,000. In this case, the insurer will reimburse you $4,500 and you will have to pay the remaining $500 out of pocket.

However, there are exceptions such as lower deductibles for a good driving record, waiver of deductibles depending on the amount of the loss for certain “home” categories, and the type of coverage chosen.

You must contact your broker to let them know, and they will transfer your call to the claims department, where a claims expert will open a file and guide you through the process. Your damage insurance broker is always ready to help when needed.

Insurance premiums are based on micro-pricing and a customer’s credit rating. A good credit rating represents a lower risk for the insurer and will result in a better premium. We do not have access to our customers’ credit records, and the fact of giving your verbal consent in no way affects your credit rating.
